The surge in militant activities by various rebel groups in North Kivu has transformed the adjacent Minova locality into a haven for the war-displaced. Minova documented almost 45,000 displaced people in just the week of January 25 to February 2, 2024, based on data from the South Kivu Humanitarian Affairs Division (DIVAH SK).
These individuals, who have been forced to abandon their homes, face dire challenges such as famine, psychological distress due to loss and trauma, and a heightened risk of water-borne diseases, creating a precarious situation that could precipitate a surge in endemic diseases within the displaced community. Let Africa Live is dedicating efforts to mitigate these hardships through psychological support, humanitarian aid, and fostering self-reliance via emergency vocational training and helping reintegrate displaced persons into the community.
