Situated within the conflict-ridden Ruzizi plain, the Kamanyola area has endured over two decades of strife, sexual and gender-based violence, and community clashes that have fostered the rise of armed groups. These groups often coerce local youths, causing them to abandon their education to join the fight and perpetrate sexual violence against girls and women, contributing to a cycle of vulnerability within the community.
Those who leave these groups face bleak prospects, with limited employment opportunities and challenges in resuming their education, leading many to resort to criminal activities like theft for survival. In response, Let Africa Live is actively working towards sustainable peace and community cohesion by providing a hopeful future for conflict victims and educating the local population on fostering positive neighborhood relations.
