The Bideka grouping within Walungu territory has long been a refuge for those displaced by regional conflicts, including many Hutu refugees since 1994. However, this hospitality has come at a cost, as the area now contends with persistent insecurity and clashes among rebel groups, particularly in the corridor linking Mwenga, Fizi, Kabare and Walungu’s Kaniola group.
The pervasive violence not only drives individuals to seek safety but also increases the risk of sexual violence against women. The youth, lacking employment opportunities, are especially vulnerable to being drawn into crime, including theft and sexual assault, as they struggle to reintegrate into society. Let Africa Live is dedicated to fostering peace, healing and the reintegration of those scarred by conflict within this community. Through initiatives offering psychosocial support and vocational training, we strive to empower the vulnerable and war-affected individuals, aiding in their journey towards a peaceful and self-sufficient future.
